Untitled (3 Variations)

2015, Tokyo

3 pieces
white canvas, acrylic paint
260 x 180 cm

The work is installed on the roof of the former Shibuya City Hall building and is using the official flag poles for showing a colorful abstraction of ordinary flag color combinations. The flags are in an immediate connection with the public domain and can be seen from the streets and the area around the building. The designs are reflecting on patterns found in Tokyo during a research on the use of fabrics in Japanese architecture and soft structures. The hand painted pieces are using the color combination of the LGBT flag as an Homage to the fact that Shibuya is the first municipality in Japan to recognize same-sex partnerships.
